With disinfection and sanitizing robots using different technologies, UV light has consistently proven to be an effective means of providing safe spaces.
While there are several types of disinfection and sanitizing robots, not all utilize the power of UV light. However, here at OhmniLabs, we wanted to make sure that our autonomous disinfection robot, OhmniClean, had the best tools available to provide the highest level of disinfection possible. And with UV light being backed by a multitude of scientific studies, we had no hesitation in choosing UV-C as our preferred bulb.
With that, we wanted to provide a brief overview of UV-C and, specifically, the types of bulbs we choose for our products. With this added context, you’ll have an even better understanding of why OhmniClean is the premier disinfection robot in the world.
Types of UV Light for Disinfection & Sanitizing Robots
When it comes to ultraviolet light, the general rule is that the shorter the wavelength, the stronger the light. UV-A light and UV-B light have the longest and second-longest wavelengths, respectively. These forms of light can penetrate the earth’s atmosphere and, thus, are the main causes of sunburns.
UV-C light, having the shortest wavelength, is significantly more powerful than the preceding forms. And while these rays are unable to penetrate our planet’s atmosphere, UV-C can still be used for a variety of purposes — namely, in disinfection and sanitizing robots.
All forms of UV light are available in bulb form, but due to its proven ability to eliminate 99.99% of harmful pathogens, our robots are equipped with UV-C bulbs to give you the maximum benefit of UV disinfection.
Overview of OhmniClean Bulbs
In order for our robot to achieve thorough disinfection, we designed it to pack a significant punch of powerful UV light. Each unit comes standard with eight 75-watt, high-output 254nm UV-C lamps. The bulbs are composed of 2.0 mg of low-pressure mercury (less than the typical fluorescent bulb available today) with an average lifespan of about 9,000 hours for each.
All bulbs combined, the unit emits an impressive 600 watts of power, which can create a rather hot environment for the bulbs to reside. For this reason, our OhmniClean units come with dual-cooling fans installed on the light module, which helps optimize power and maintain its high levels of efficiency.
FAQs About OhmniClean Bulbs

Q: How do I dispose of the bulbs that have burned out?
A: Our bulbs can be disposed of or recycled in the same manner as any fluorescent bulb used by your organization.
Q: What safety features does OhmniClean have to prevent exposure to UV light?
A: Every OhmniClean unit comes with untethered controls and warning indicators, as well as remote motion sensors that trigger automatic shutdown, to prevent any accidental exposures.
Q: How much do new bulbs cost?
A: As part of our service and warranty program, all your bulbs will be free of charge — regardless of how many you may require.
UV-C Bulbs in Disinfection & Sanitizing Robots
Of course, while the bulbs we use are important, their true potential is only achieved when they’re combined with OhmniClean’s advanced autonomous operation. By being able to drive itself around any space, the germ-fighting power of the UV-C bulbs is brought up close to each surface, ensuring that a thorough disinfection is achieved every time. If you’re searching for the best disinfection and sanitizing robots, look no further than OhmniClean.
